How to be sporty with a non-friendly attitude in a serious environment, sensitive platform and a vital topic, in Black Narcissus.
What’s the obsession over the faces? That’s the only question I have from the director Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s Black Narcissus. Yes, it is commendable considering it has brilliant performance at the center of it, but it is quite an odd choice from the directors. Especially, if the film majorly fuels its plot on not character based actions but the relationships that they thrive upon. The cutting edge equation among these characters is where the real conflict, the drama, the juice lies. It also reminded me of Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled. That under-the-table cutthroat rebellious nature is present in both of these films. Coincidentally they also deal with the same subject matter, with a similar dark approach slicing its viewers for a better impact.
