How to know yourself before knowing your significant other, in Manmarziyaan.
The director Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan is a fairly standard fairy tale, if the tale was obnoxiously arrogant towards its world and there were two fairies. Kashyap’s obsession towards the twins is intriguing. Is it in the name of the celebrative nature of Bollywood love stories? Is it the state of the protagonist and what she is going through? I feel that it is a way of communication. I don’t know what it is saying to me, but I am okay with it, since they are there to speak to the protagonist and she seems to understand them just fine. Kashyap’s other brilliance is how he carves the repetitive nature of the script as a form of digging deep in the name of character study. We are hooked, eyebrows raised up till he pulls and pulls and then gives us the sweet release of satisfying sweet ending.
