How to behave cool even though you are not, in The Gentlemen.
So what is this morbid fascination of ours, as an audience, to watch these con artists con each other as their obsession over the simplest though definitely a vital aspect of human emotions overlapped or diminished or snatched by these gentlemen? The writer and the director Guy Ritchie The Gentlemen is him reminiscing on his old memories and recreating that same magic that marked him on the map. All of that is acceptable. And none of that is an excuse credible enough to pedal this multi-starrer cast into a no man’s land. What I loved the most about The Gentlemen is that it doesn’t take the expectations that it is going buzz around when it hits on screen, for granted and does work enormously in earning that same cult phenomenon. It’s just that it never actually reaches there. I feel sad. I admire the effort but I also cannot help feeling disappointed.
