There is not one ounce of malice in the film. So pure, untouched and unfiltered are the emotions running in the veins of these characters that you feel too little as a person to deserve to know these people. And hey, you also walk out as a better person. The writer and director Ritesh Batra’s Photograph has a sensitive outlook towards the entire concept of promise. The entire film runs on promise. There are, of course, moments when it leans on assumption but even those are framed as hope. Fingers crossed and earned through hard work. The storytelling of the film focuses entirely on those scenarios. And this is often misinterpreted as the reversal of expectation. Saying that it tells you about the mundane, often nadir part of the day rather than what was crucial or obligatory note of the storyline. Photograph is just a picture with, I would insist on no words, and sensational performance from Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra.
